What do you all think????

Okay, I've been stressing quite a bit. I told my principal that I may need two weeks to recover after my surgery. I have the sick days and a good supply teacher booked already for the first week with the option to extend my sick leave. Am I just being greedy? So many of you said that I would be feeling better in 3 or 4 days. Since my surgery falls right before the Easter Break I will have 6 days off (we get Easter Monday off too). Is that enough??? Or should I come back the Thursday and Friday after Easter?

Part of me wants to stay home and completely recuperate, but another part of me doesn't want to leave my class for two weeks!

Advice anyone?

  1. I would go back. You have an assistant, or partner teacher, right? So you will still be able to take Th and Fri relatively "easy" if you go back. I would also explain to the children that you have a boo-boo from the Dr's office on your lower belly... I know it sounds weird to have to get into so much detail with 6 yr olds, but trust me, I didn't feel the need to say anything last year, and what do you think the FIRST THING your kids will want to do when you come back from being away?? That's right- BIG HUG!! And 6 yr olds' little heads are conveniently just about the height of a grown woman's lower abdomen :)

  2. no assistant, but my grade partner is next door. thursdays and fridays are easier days anyway.

  3. Hmm, I can't say specifically what you should do, but could you kind of do a wait and see. So if you're not feeling as well as you like you can take extra time, and on the flip side, if you're feeling great you can go back more quickly. Is that a possibility?

  4. Nope take the tiem, I SOOO would not go back at all, you need this time to recover, and if they have done serious work, then take that time, we put too much pressure on ourselves already, and I would state that 2 weeks at least would be good.

  5. Be careful! You don't know what is growing on your bowel.

If you have a lap I think you will be fine in 6 days! If you have more work done, you will need to take the full 6 weeks to recoup. ;)

  7. I'd say go back, as long as you can take it easy (i.e. not lift heavy stuff or run 3 miles). Then clear the following weekend so you can rest, if necessary.

    You can do it, JB!

  8. Hi,
I would totally take the time off to recover. As much as they allow...I really regret going back to work early because I was so drained. I would come home and start crying because I just needed more time to heel. Good luck with everything!!!
    Many prayers,
    Amber

  9. Though I've never had the lap surgery, I've been out for other medical issues, and I say, take the time, esp. if you have a lot built up to take. It's better to be sure you're rested than to go back too early, even if just for two days, and have to push through. Let yourself completely heal and relax. Take time for you!

  10. You really could be ready to go back after the Easter weekend. But your body will still be healing. You deal with 6 year olds, you are on your feet most of the day, right? It isn't like you can sit on your ass at a desk and be still.

My last lap when they did the endo surgery was a major deal. I was in the hospital for 4 days after the surgery because of all the work they did on my bowel. Most of it was scar tissue, not just endo. And it took a while to recover. A full day at work took it all out of me.

Book the time, if you don't need it, you don't have to take it. But if you are tired or sore, you will have to option without worrying about things.

  11. It was easier for me to come back right away because at my job, I pretty much just sit at a desk all day! I may have done it differently had I been teaching 6 year olds!

However 2 whole weeks is a lot of time and if you really don't want to leave your kids that long then I would think you will more than likely be ready to go back by then.

The only exception is if they find extensive endo and you end up having something like Sew did! But I would tend to think that that would be rare. (sorry Sew...such bad luck!)

  12. I was fine in just a few days after my laparoscopy. The laparotomy was a completely different story, though.

  13. Thanks KC! ;) hahaha

I went back after 3 weeks but called out of work numerous times after I went back because I was just not ready to be back in the swing of things.

I remember being back at work and going to the grocery store. I called my husband in the middle of the grocery store to come and get me because I was in so much pain. That was easily a month after surgery.

I was sitting on heating pads and everything. It was horrible. I should have stayed out the full 6 weeks. Nothing is as important as healing. Even if your brain is okay and ready, your body isn't. :)

That is if they to do more then a lap. :) The third cycle after surgery I thought I was going to DIE! My ovaries were trying to escape my body. It hurt. A good hurt though.

I don't want to scare you, it's all a good hurt. :) Just think no more endo belly, and no more bowel problems! ;) What could be better????

  15. Are you able to decide last minute? Can you call after the surgery?
It depends what they find and fix I guess. I had some endo removed and a cyst and dye thrown in my tubes (3 incisions) but everyone reacts differently especially to the anesthesia. I think that's what took me a while to get over, the anesthesia.

  16. I would take the time, because you never know what they will find, and it's better to have the time and not need it than to not have the time and need it.

You are such a devoted teacher and I know your kids will miss you like crazy, but trust me, you will be so happy when you realize there is not any pressure to get better faster than you are ready to.

Of course, if you feel fine afterwards, maybe you could always let the school know and see what happens?

  17. You know IF girls are gonna have an opinion about surgery! hahahaha

Dang! It's sad that we all have an opinion! ;) It's like the fertiles girl question to cloth or disposable? WHATEVER!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I am so excited it is here!!!!! Seriously, Very excited!!!! I can't wait and I will be praying!

  18. I would absolutely take the time off. I would rather make sure I was 100% than have to go back and make do.
