Growing

When we got home from my father-in-law's house yesterday afternoon I looked out our living room window and I was suddenly in awe of how green everything is.

Winter is long and cold up here in Canada. Every year when it's unbearably gray and yucky I forget how lush things get in the springtime. Spring seemed to surprise me this year. Perhaps it was because I was in the depths of the feel-me-sorries, perhaps because it went from being comfortably cool to being HOT today, I'm not quite sure. But I do have to say that looking at our sod taking root and being so beautiful (it's like having a lush carpet outside, our grass has NEVER looked this good, God bless whoever invented sod) and seeing my plants grow is making me happy.

I was never really interested in gardening. One of my friends landscaped our postage stamp sized backyard for a wedding present and it wasn't until last year that I actually started enjoying working in the dirt. Growing my own lettuce (this year I have five different varieties!) and herbs definitely has a pay off. There's nothing like making homemade pesto!

I'm lucky that things are starting to sprout as I'm starting to feel better. I guess my revelation and surrendering my fertility over to the Lord coincided with the perfect time.

I know that I will go through a low point again. It's inevitable in a struggle, there are peaks and valleys. I'm so lucky that I have such a wonderful support group here to lift me up when I need it. Thank you all for your prayers.

I really hope that this is a turning point for me, or at least a step in an upward direction.

  1. I am so glad you are feeling positive. I say take those days and milk em for all their worth! IF seems to bring a lot of the "other" kinds of days too as we all all know so well.

  2. This is probably the first year where I am not filling all of my pots with flowers. I'm just not feeling it. However, I did plant a bigger garden so we'll see how that goes. I love spring. IT's nice to see everything grow and blossom. It's God's gift after a long, cold winter.

  3. So glad that things are looking brighter for you (and I love you friend's wedding present idea!). I tried last year with tomatoes, but we have an east and a west balcony and everything freezes or wilts. I haven't decided yet what I am going to try this year.

  5. We're having such trouble growing grass in our backyard, we were thinking of just laying down sod ourselves before we sell. Isn't it awesome? Just unroll and POOF! nice green grass :).

  10. My husband and I live in an apt so I'm not able to really garden so I'm a bit jealous of those that have yards and can garden! I think it's amazing how the weather can effect one's mood, dark skys many times coincide with down times. However, seeing a beautiful sunset at the end of a beautiful day seem to bring about an extra bit of hope, as if God is saying, "here I am. I am with you!" So glad you are feeling better. I hope that positive thinking/feeling is still with you today! Sending prayers your way!!

  11. Like you, I seem to have a faulty immune system too. Besides the endo, I have moderate persistent asthma.

Recently I found a website that provided a lot of info on how eating the right foods and a good diet can boost your immune system and help with endo. This lady is a family nutritionist and she had endo too. She had nineteen surgeries and finally a hysterectomy at age nineteen. She has adopted three children from Korea.

Her website can be found at:

And this lady's excellent article is at:

The above is a MUST READ! She wrote a book on the subject. I bought the book and found it very informative and helpful!

Hope this helps someone! Thinking of you and praying for you!

    Love,
    Maria

  13. So excited to meet another Eurovision fan! Just thought of you again because we are taking my sister and her travel buddy over the border to France tonight (into the Alsace) for Flammkuchen - torte flambe (or whatever - I leave the French to Hartmut, and the dialect there is German anyhoo, so you can order in whatever language you'd like.)

  14. I'm glad you are feeling better and it's starting to get green up there. One of the advantages of living in the south is the early spring, so if you are ever feeling down in late March or April, just come visit me. I'm glad you are enjoying gardening.
