Day Eleven of the Big Infertile Adventure

The frustration of recovering from surgery, particularly away from home and all things familiar, hit yesterday.

I dropped something on the floor and I had a meltdown.

I admit that I am a very prideful person. I don't like being helped and I especially resent not being able to do things, like pick something off the floor, myself. I am also married to a person that is used to having a wife that is very independent. He is a wonderful nurse, but he is at a different speed that I am on, if you know what I mean.

I so wanted to go out yesterday, even if it was just to Wa.lmart to pick up some stuff (i.e. bigger pants and pj's!), but the gas pain was so bad that I couldn't leave our room. I am starting to understand what dying to self means!

This morning after breakfast we took a very long walk to the Cre.ighton bookstore to get some souvenirs. Along our walk I had to remind Mr. JB to slow down and I got frustrated again. My incision was really hurting and I think that I bit more off than I could chew. As soon as we got back to our room I crashed.

I intend to go out later today since I am getting cabin fever, but we'll see. We're changing rooms tomorrow since our stay has been extended so I have to conserve my energy!

Thanks again for all your prayers! I've been praying for all of you!

  1. JB - My Dh and I often operate at different paces too! He is slow and steady. I hope you can relieve some of this cabin fever and gain some independence back soon! It's tough being completely outside your normal surroundings and life.

  2. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. You are doing so well, this initial time will pass soon. :) Hugs!

  3. Aww, poor girl! Definitely take things slow and steady. It is good for the gas to move around so it can dissipate. And, I found when I had my surgery that I could pick some things up with my toes. Don't know if that helps. Thinking of you!

  4. Its almost all over. I know it is ROUGH as can be right now. But, as TOTALLY hard as it is, try to take it easy...Soon you will be doing all the things you always enjoy---this is a Very Short Interlude to Your Big Great Busy Life Coming Soon.

UGH, it must be SO hard to be away from home.

Big hugs and prayers galore for you today.

  5. Oh I feel for you. My DH had to fly home and left me alone on post-op day 4 through 10. I cried buckets of tears during those painful, lonely days. The gas that settles up in your neck and shoulders is the worst. *shudder* But so is the cabin fever. Hang in there...the 14th will be here before you know it.

  7. When "it" hits, it just plain sucks. Remember that you just had MAJOR surgery and don't try and do everything you used to. I had to remind myself of that daily! Its hard to believe that you can't do it ... when in your mind you know you can. Ugh! Darn that patience!
Thinking of and praying for you and your hubby!

  10. Keep walking around as much as you can, JB. If you get tired, REST. Be gentle with yourself. Let your tiredness be your guide. Know that we are all praying for you. And soon you'll be on your way home again.

  12. I remember thinking that some of those long days would never end, but looking back the weeks went by really fast. I know you are probably tired of hearing this, but you have to get adequate rest. Your body has been through so much! I really pushed myself at the beginning and ended up wiping myself out for days......still praying!
